Founded by Janet Mentgen in 1989, Healing Touch (HT) is an energy therapy in which practitioners consciously use their hands with compassionate healing intention to promote health and healing.

It is safe for all ages and works in harmony with standard medical care.  Many hospitals are incorporating Healing Touch Therapy to calm and prepare patients for surgery, chemotherapy, and other anxiety-provoking procedures.  Studies have shown that HT may reduce wound healing time and shorten the length of hospital stays. Other common indications for Healing Touch include chronic pain, headaches including migraines, anxiety, sleep disturbances, emotional distress, chronic fatigue, back pain, as well as promote general health and wellbeing. It is especially useful for patients who are in pain but unable to tolerate traditional massage or touch, such as fibromyalgia and burn patients.
The healing touch practitioner and client create a partnership in facilitating health and healing. Healing touch therapy complements conventional medicine and is used as part of an integrated healing program.

The first session involves the evaluation of individual’s physical, mental, and emotional situation as well as the energy session.  The patient will lie fully clothed on a massage table while the provider gently places their hands slightly above or at the individual. Practitioners may perform a meditative centering prior to beginning therapy. An assessment of the energy field is done by hands or using a pendulum. The session generally lasts 40 to 60 minutes. Although individual experiences will vary, most of the time Healing Touch Therapy results in a deep calmness and relaxation. Patients may even fall asleep or be in a dreamy state of consciousness.
The ultimate goal is removing all energetic obstacles and facilitating an ideal condition for healing to occur. Because of the mind and body connection, whatever thing that can put a person in a state of relaxation can have the enormous benefits. Studies have revealed that when in deeply relaxed state, heart rate and blood pressure decrease, blood flow to the bowels and bladder increases and breathing becomes rhythmic and slow, which creates the most favorable situation for the body’s immune system to take over and encourage healing.
